Iz MacOS X hints:
-------------------------------
I found a forum discussion last week in which a poster claimed success with installing a PCI wireless card. I have been on the hunt for such a beast for quite some time. I found that my local Comp-USA had the card (a Buffalo WLI-PCI-G54) in stock for $80.00 and it's 802.11a/g to boot.
Two hours later, I had my door stop Blue and White acting as my router/firewall and media/file server. The new interface is four times the speed of my old D-Link access point connected to my 802.11b Powerbook -- I could never get over 1MB/sec with the D-Link. I added a Tulip NIC that I had laying around, and had previously been proven compatible with OS X. Now I have two private subnets (one wired, one wireless), and all with hardly a visit to Terminal.app (at least until I started messing with firewall rules and IPSec).
The only caveat is that you must be running the latest AirPort software (and probably 10.2.6 as well) or it won't recognize the card. Let's recycle some of those old PCI Macs!
